Alleged Egg Attack Attempt Targets Abhishek Banerjee in Kolkata Amid Escalating Political Tensions
A reported egg-throwing attempt targeting TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee in Kolkata has sparked political controversy amid rising tensions within the party. A woman claimed she traveled from Delhi to carry out the act but was prevented by heavy security. The incident highlights growing internal unrest and political friction in West Bengal.
The incident allegedly occurred on Friday near the Enforcement Directorate office at Bhavani Bhawan in Kolkata, where Abhishek Banerjee was present. Earlier, a separate incident in Sonarpur had already seen hostility directed toward the TMC leader, adding to the mounting controversies surrounding him.
According to the report, a woman identified as Udita Das claimed that she traveled from Delhi along with her husband with the intention of throwing eggs at Abhishek Banerjee. She stated that she initially attempted to procure rotten eggs for the act but was unable to find them, and therefore carried regular eggs instead. However, due to heavy security deployment, including bodyguards and police personnel, she was unable to carry out the alleged plan.
Speaking about the incident, the woman reportedly said she had come specifically to target Abhishek Banerjee and expressed regret over her inability to execute the attempt. She added that despite the failure, her anger had not diminished.
The report also highlights a broader political backdrop in West Bengal, stating that following the electoral setbacks in the state, the Trinamool Congress and the Banerjee family leadership, including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, have been facing increasing challenges. The situation is described as one of growing internal dissatisfaction, with several leaders distancing themselves from the party leadership.
According to political accounts mentioned in the report, some rebel legislators, Members of Parliament, and party leaders have attributed their discontent and departure from the party to Abhishek Banerjee, alleging misconduct as a contributing factor.
The developments underscore the intensifying political friction within the Trinamool Congress and the heightened security and controversy surrounding its senior leadership.
